Use the right toothbrush.

A soft-bristled toothbrush is safer than a stiff brush. Using a hard-bristled brush vigorously while brushing your teeth might damage your gums, root surface, and the tooth enamel. However, a too soft brush might fail to dislodge all the food particles in between your teeth. Ensure that your brush head is small enough to cover your entire mouth. In addition, your toothbrush handle should fit your hand correctly. You need to develop a culture of changing your brush every three months to enhance its effectiveness.

Use the Right Technique

The main aim of brushing your teeth is to dislodge food particles that might have stuck in between your teeth and protect your gums. Therefore, adopting the proper way of brushing your teeth is paramount. In addition, using the wrong technique can continuously injure your gum. First, you need to apply a pea-sized amount of toothpaste to your brush. If your brush is too hard, you can soak it for a few minutes in warm water. 

Instead of moving across your teeth while brushing, use small and circular motions. This may take at least three minutes to cover the entire mouth. While brushing your front teeth, hold your brush at a 45-degree angle. This will ensure that you do not injure your gums as you try to dislodge some of the food particles wedged in between your teeth. In addition, ensure that you are using the right toothpaste. Ensure that your toothpaste has fluoride in it. Research studies have identified fluorine as one of the best elements that remove plaque and strengthen teeth`s enamel.

Brush Gently and Long Enough

Using more strength while brushing your teeth does not mean you are doing a better job. Vigorous brushing can damage your gums and tooth enamel. In addition, your toothbrush will quickly become worn out if you energetically brush your teeth. You might have been affected by the misconception of brushing your teeth quickly. However, this mistake can affect your dentition later in life. You need to develop a habit of working out each area slowly as you go around your mouth. Spend at least ten seconds on each site. Doing this will take at least three minutes to complete brushing your teeth.

Brush your tongue

You need to understand that your toothbrush is not just for your teeth. It would be best if you brush your tongue too. The bacteria that grow in one’s tongue are hard to remove. Therefore, stop depending on mouthwashes alone to clean your tongue. Use your toothbrush and gently clean your tongue as you avoid injuring it.


Once you have thoroughly brushed your teeth with an effective toothbrush, do not forget to rinse your mouth with some clean water. In addition, do not forget to rinse your toothbrush as you will need its services tomorrow.
