You can experience unconditional love from your pets. That endless snuggles and silent moments with your pets are priceless. But, with a pet comes situations where your pet needs tender loving care from their human parent. Feeding or playing with him is more than enough to show your love for them. Moreover, to keep your pet healthy and playful, you need to look at the bigger picture, i.e., keeping parasites at bay. Also called external parasites, ticks and fleas can suck the blood of your pet and can cause infections. Not only that, there are others things that need attention in order to effectively take care of your beloved four-legged friends.

Let us take a look at the ways in which you can take care of your friendly buddy:

  1. Prevent Ticks and Fleas

It is highly important to keep fleas and ticks away from your buddy. These creepy crawly pests can wreak havoc in your pet’s life and needs to be adhered to. This can be done in various ways:

The Natural Way

There are organic ways to keep the parasites away. You can use garlic and apple cider vinegar in your pet’s diet. These ingredients will make your pet less attractive to the ticks and fleas. You can apply citrus, lavender, and cinnamon to repel the parasites. Or, you can also make easy DIY Flea Sprays on your own with natural ingredients.

Ingesting Orally

Another option is oral treatment. Your pet can gulp down a pill to prevent and treat ticks and fleas. Generally, most oral treatments such as Simparica, Simparica Trio, and Nexgard for dogs provide month-long protection as well.

Topical Options
Advantix is a medicine used to repel ticks and fleas and is available in liquid and gel form. This powerful product can be applied to your dog’s spine and let it soak through his skin. Some treatments also come in spray form, which you can gently apply to your pet’s body. Just make sure you’re in a well-ventilated area when using them. If you have a cat, Advantage Multi for cats (also known as Advocate) is a great option to help protect against parasites.

It goes without saying but providing fresh drinking water to your buddy is very important. There are many pets who will refrain from drinking water if the water is stale. Moreover, stale water isn’t really good for your pet’s health. Hence, ensure you replace the old bowl of water with a fresh one once every 6 to 8 hours.

Also, measure the water intake of your pet if possible, so that you can keep track of the amount of water that your pet consumes. Less water intake may lead to dehydration in pets. Therefore, always make sure that your pet is consuming enough water.

  1. Regular Exercises

Exercising is a must if you want your buddy to stay fit and active. Daily exercises such as running and taking your buddy for long walks must be followed diligently. It not only helps the both of you stay fit and active, but you also get to spend some quality time with your buddy. It’s an apt time to strengthen your relationship with your pal.

Although exercise is essential for all pets, different pets need different amounts of exercise depending on their size, age and breed. A German shepherd may need vigorous exercise for a minimum of one hour on a daily basis, whereas a stroll around the street may be enough for a pug. Hence, always make sure that your pet is getting the optimum amount of exercise.

  1. Proper Grooming

Grooming is another important thing to keep in mind. Your pet needs to be groomed once a week or so. This helps in maintaining proper hygiene and keeps diseases and problems at a safe distance. Proper grooming includes bathing your pet, cutting and clipping their nails, cleaning their ears, brushing their set of teeth, etc.
